about
The first single off my upcoming full-length album, Starving by Design.
This song was the first written following the more... let's say "artsy," works, such as those on "No, It's You" and "Runoff." There were also some that were just downright difficult - changing time signatures, pandiatonicism, what have you (K does that too, but these ones were worse to play.) I figured that maybe I needed to remember how to write songs as songs. Hence, Jade and Honey was the first full song that I had written in a few years without writing it out (as sheet music.)
People often question the lyrics, especially the rather striking main line of the chorus. While I ride with the statement that once a work of art is published, the opinions people make of its topic can be just as valid as the original intentions, I see no problem in sharing my explanation. It is, simply put, a love song, for Zoë VK. The "cold, dead, eyes" line was in my head before we had met, but the rest of it fleshed out as a song as our romance has. Intimacy comes with a change of tone from the day-to-day manner a person has. When things are set in motion, someone's expressions change. That's where that line comes from.
lyrics
Spring has come
Seasons can't help but change
Yet after all this time, the way we feel has remained the same
Fire wheels lay without refuge from the rain
Evening thunder strikes
We realize it's here we'll stay
Then, you look at me like that
A look so sure, what's a man to say?
I wanna kiss those cold, dead eyes
(Make them feel alive,
Sanguine desire,
Yours and mine...)

Court's music is full of heart and life. I listen to "Stars" about 25 times a day. His latest release, "While You Wait," is distributed by A Study. A Study in Expression
Easter Teeth once played a show with one of Joseph's bands, Duo Contra, in a convenient store. They're loud and intense, like Dillinger Escape Plan mixed with disco. These two tracks are my favorites. A Study in Expression
Woozy, rollicking indie rock that's thick and humid, searching vocals set against pealing guitars. Also available on cassette. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 22, 2016
