about
This song was written fairly suddenly in November 2019 and finished just before our Jade and Honey single release show at The Grand Berry Theater. (It was listed in the program as Lavender for that show, but changed almost immediately after.) I have drafted a lot of music for upright bass - it's the first instrument I ever learned and the one I've studied the most - but it always fell flat or was left incomplete until Orchid.
Originally written for bass and vocals only, I felt like it could definitely work in different arrangements. Upon Marcos Morales' invitation, we recorded it together at Mediatech Institute in Dallas. The guitar parts came out of us handing my acoustic guitar back and forth. While we attempted to add a shekere layer, it didn't benefit this recording at all. This song wouldn't have come out in this version without his work, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results.
While I love the music of Hamza El Din, I don't think I could ever perform his music. For many reasons. This piece, more than anything else, is a subconscious homage to his work and life.
lyrics
Here I stand, flow'r in hand,
Waiting by the sea
You are worlds apart from me
This is not my end,
Here or now
I will return to you somehow
Light your lamps,
But save your prayers and your pity
Don't forget sweet Athena is smiling down on me
This is not my end,
Here or now
I will return to you somehow
How I wish it might rain,
That the sea might flood
I will be swallowed whole - mind, soul, and blood
This is not my end,
Here or now
I will return to you somehow

Court's music is full of heart and life. I listen to "Stars" about 25 times a day. His latest release, "While You Wait," is distributed by A Study. A Study in Expression
Easter Teeth once played a show with one of Joseph's bands, Duo Contra, in a convenient store. They're loud and intense, like Dillinger Escape Plan mixed with disco. These two tracks are my favorites. A Study in Expression
Woozy, rollicking indie rock that's thick and humid, searching vocals set against pealing guitars. Also available on cassette. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 22, 2016
